Going way back to the new Musee du Quai Branly

Basement in the Musee du Quai Branly
May 17 while jetlagged and rainy outside
Jean Nouvel's new museum, not too far from
the EiffelTower, holds collections of indigenous
art from the Americas, Africa, Oceana...but this
view is the basement!

In general, the museum is very dark, really
too dark, but I loved how the colors glowed
in this spot.  The cylinder on the right is
their art  collection storage area, somewhat
on view through the glass that goes up
several floors through the museum.
Many museums have most of their holdings
hidden in storage--the trend now is to make
the back rooms and even the work areas
more visible to the public.
